CCSF stays open, but workers aren't celebrating yet

CCSF

City College of San Francisco is now able to stay open for another two years while it meets accreditation standards, according to the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges.

This is a relief for the college which has feared closure since last July, when the commission decided to terminate the college’s accreditation this coming July.

However, many at the college aren’t celebrating just yet. Faculty Union President Tim Kilkelly says the union is hesitant to consider this a complete victory, and expressed concerns about some provisions of the newly proposed plan.

KILKELLY: “The process they created has some serious questions we have about it. It does seem that this new process would require the college to give up pursuing any requests for a review, or an appeal, or the ability to go to court. So what happens after 2 years? The college would have no right of appeal? This is a big concern. We need to know."

The Accrediting Commission is hearing public comment until June 25th at 5:00pm.
