Last week Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr attended a town hall meeting at Newark Memorial High School to talk about gun control. Kerr and the Warriors have been part of the current rise of activism in American professional sports.
But that's nothing new to Warriors community ambassador Adonal Foyle. He was drafted by the team back in 1997 after growing up in the Caribbean. He played for the Warriors for a decade, and during that time he founded Democracy Matters, a national student organization that works to get big, private money out of politics. He recently sat down with KALW’s Ben Trefny to discuss the rise of political consciousness among pro athletes.
"The world is getting incredibly smaller with the invention of social media, and players are engaging in that world at a level we haven’t seen."
